Thanks Jennifer. We have some people handing out flyers in the next week and we have a couple of signs that will be put up as well. BBW is supposed to notify customers via email, mail and publication in a local paper. Posting notifications, including safety notifications, on social media does not fulfill the requirements Set forth by the water board.
I’ve been hearing a lot of mixed feelings on the rate increase. Many are concerned the funds won’t be used where they’re needed most. If you do the math the rate increase over 2 years is only a tenth of the funds needed to do the BASIC corrective actions that were needed in 2019. I can only imagine how that amount has increased in the last 3 years.
This is why it’s important for people to come to the meeting. Hopefully these questions and concerns will be addressed.
Definitely agree we need to have a good "turn out" at this meeting. I will go door-to-door in my area to help inform and get folks to attend. As for whether to support the rate increase, ironically, one of the things mentioned by the State Resources Board in their letter (that McPherson posted- in which the Board states they are moving to appoint a receiver for BBW) is that part of BBW's failure in financial management is that BBW has not asked for sufficient rate increases. I'm not strictly opposed to a rate increase (it really is probably needed) however, my thoughts are that since there has been such a long history of gross mismanagement of BBW, that any rate increase and associated funds should only be done after the receiver is appointed to manage things properly. This should help assure the funds are used to aid in repairs, etc. and provide better transparency about how they are used.
Thank you, Shandra.
Marjorie, I just updated my profile with my name, Sorry about that,I was using it as a tester when I made the website and never filled in my name. It's Shandra
Unknown member, Thank you to the group of people that have been working hard to make this all happen. My husband and I will be at the meeting, not to protest the rate increase but to support, as you put it, the best and quickest path to a safe and reliable water source.
This site currently has about 65 people who have become members (so far 43 of them have opened the email notification about the meeting.) We’ve had over 250 people view the website. There are posts in both the FB and ND groups about the meeting as well. We will be handing out flyers in the easy to access neighborhoods in the next week or so to get more customers involved.
Even if customers don’t want to protest the rate increase I think it’s important to come anyway and voice our concerns. One of which I continue to hear is “how do we know the funds will be spent where they’re need most?” All of our efforts are focused on finding the best and quickest path forward to a safe and reliable water source, wherever that path may lead.
One more thing, why don't we have more people commenting on this site? Is the support going to be there? I'm worried.
Also, how can we trust that BBW is going to start to fix the infrastructure with the rate increase if they've received other monies and not done what they said they were going to do.
I agree with you Dan, standing room only. We've been here since 2000 and I only remember hearing about one other rate increase and they set up a meeting at that time. Unfortunately, we were working 10 hour days and commuting over the hill and we weren't able to make that meeting. I heard nothing after that. I've been unhappy with Big Basin Water for a long time but whenever I mention anything on Nextdoor or Facebook about their lack of communication I get bombarded with how wonderful they are, so I've kept quiet. I would have expected dealing with a mom and pop operation, that we would have had lots of communication, some community meetings and transparency but they deal with their business much like the big corporations!
Agree with as many customers attending as possible. The clubhouse should be standing room only and spilling out. I think a Monday night at 6pm should be doable for most folks or at least 1 rep. per residence.
We need to have as many people as possible at this meeting. I have it on our calendar. We'll be there!
Thanks for adding this...I may have missed it on Nextdoor.
